How does upside down text work?

There is no real "upside down font". Instead, this tool replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks like the letter rotated 180 degrees, for example a → ɐ, e → ǝ and h → ɥ. Because these are normal characters, the flipped text can be pasted almost anywhere. With Reverse order switched on, the characters are also reversed so the text reads correctly when you turn your phone around.
